Testimonies

Silvia Nanjala is a dedicated student at Our Lady of Mercy Girls’ Secondary School. Growing up in a devout Muslim household, she has always practiced Islam, participating in Friday prayers with her fellow Muslim classmates. However, as time passed, Silvia began to feel a stirring in her heart during the school’s Christian Union (CU) meetings, which are held every Thursday afternoon.

Initially, she did not attend these gatherings, but the joyful melodies and praises that emanated from the CU sessions captivated her attention. The sounds were filled with a sense of peace and exuberance, evoking a deep longing within her. Silvia referred to it as a “noise of happiness,” a captivating experience that resonated in her heart and drew her closer to the Christian faith. Despite this growing curiosity, she hesitated to attend the meetings openly. Silvia was concerned about how her fellow Muslim students would react and feared the potential backlash from her parents if they discovered her burgeoning interest in Christianity.

One fateful Thursday, however, an undeniable conviction washed over her, compelling her to attend the Christian Union meeting. With a mix of trepidation and excitement, she quietly slipped into the room, positioning herself among the other students while striving to remain inconspicuous. As she listened intently to the passionate preaching and heartfelt testimonies, Silvia felt an emotional awakening that she had never experienced before. In that moment, she was profoundly moved by the message of Christ’s love and the promise of salvation. It was then that she made a monumental decision: she chose to give her life to Christ on that very day.

Since embracing her new faith, Silvia has undergone a remarkable transformation, both spiritually and personally. Her heart is now filled with a newfound joy, and her outlook on life has shifted dramatically. However, this journey has not been without its challenges. Silvia faces the reality that her parents, who remain staunch Muslims, are unaware of the full extent of her conversion. Each time she returns home during school breaks, she grapples with the difficulty of explaining her new beliefs to her family. The fear of their disapproval looms large, and she often finds herself navigating a complex landscape of emotions.

In light of these struggles, Silvia humbly reaches out to the Christian community, asking for their prayers. She seeks strength, wisdom, and courage as she delicately balances her faith with her familial responsibilities. Her deepest hope is that, one day, her family will come to understand and accept her decision, or at the very least, support her right to choose her own path in faith.

Silvia’s story serves as a powerful testament to the transformative power of faith and the inner workings of God in the hearts of individuals, even amidst fear and adversity. Her journey is not just about a change in belief; it is a profound exploration of identity, love, and the courage to embrace one’s truth.

Jentrix is a spirited young teenager currently navigating the challenges of Grade Nine at Chesta Girls Secondary School. For an extended period, she endured a silent struggle with low self-esteem and an overwhelming sense of pressure to conform to the expectations of her peers. These internal conflicts not only hindered her personal growth but also obstructed her ability to embrace her true calling. Although she possessed a genuine passion for ministry—particularly in preaching and providing counsel—fear and insecurity loomed large, stifling her potential. Jentrix found herself unable to engage in one-on-one counseling sessions, which led her to gradually withdraw from those around her, even distancing herself from close friends and mentors.

This shift in her behavior did not go unnoticed, especially at home. Her parents, who had always known her as a vibrant and cheerful girl, began to feel a deep sense of concern. They struggled to comprehend the changes in their daughter, who seemed to retreat into herself. Out of desperation, they decided to visit the school, seeking the support of her teachers to help guide Jentrix through her difficulties. They longed to see their daughter restored to her former self, filled with joy and confidence.

Everything changed one fateful day during one of our chapter meetings at school when Jentrix encountered the profound love and saving grace of Jesus Christ. This pivotal moment marked the dawn of a remarkable transformation in her life. After accepting the Lord as her Savior, Jentrix began to cultivate a firm and unwavering faith. Her passion for God radiated with renewed intensity, and she embraced her calling with enthusiasm, stepping boldly into roles of service and leadership.

Today, Jentrix stands as a testament to resilience and faith. She has blossomed into a confident, courageous, and purpose-driven young woman. Actively engaged in serving God, she passionately preaches the Word, intercedes in prayer, and provides one-on-one discipleship and counseling to her fellow students, guiding them on how to lead lives centered around holiness and Christ. Her commitment to her faith is so palpable that, during my absences, she unhesitatingly takes the lead in the students’ evening services and offers invaluable support to the school patron. Many students have lovingly dubbed her their “Student Pastor,” a title that reflects the respect and admiration she has garnered among her peers. We give all the glory to God for the incredible transformation in Jentrix’s life. In Pokot County, it is painfully common for young girls to succumb to negative influences, drop out of school, and lose their way. Yet, in Jentrix’s case, we are profoundly grateful to God for lifting her from the shadows of despair and setting her on a firm, purposeful path. Her life now serves as a beacon of hope and an inspiring testimony to the extraordinary things that God can accomplish through a willing heart. Jentrix’s journey not only exemplifies the power of faith but also encourages others to pursue their own paths with courage and conviction.
